I am Fantastic

Happiness in the Flowers

My children have a wonderful book called “This Is Me!” by Philip Waechter. In this wonderful book is a line which I love – “I am Fantastic!”, in fact the book is littered with great affirmations such as “I love life and I know what I want”.

It’s really important for each and every one of us to celebrate our unique fantastic-ness. At least once, every day, remind yourself of the reasons why you are so fantastic – it will help to stem the flow of all the negative self talk you are doing. If you think about it, we are incredible beings – capable of free thought and independent action, able to walk, talk, eat breathe, sleep, run, jump, sit, smile, hug, kiss, be happy, be sad and a whole range of things which make up our overall fantastic-ness.

In the end, what is really important is how you are feeling about yourself right now. If you aren’t able to recognise your fantastic-ness, and I don’t mean in some egotistical, arrogant, “look at me” kind of way, then you are missing out on a big part of the joy of life. Now it’s ok to feel down or low about yourself, it’s your choice after all! But I guess you are reading this blog because you want to feel great, or at the very least improve your life in some way… so begin by spending that time every day celebrating just how fantastic you are.

  1. Thank you for the reminder.

You know, I think often I’ll think on what I’m saying inside, and I don’t remind myself of my fantasticness enough. Sometimes it’s degrading. Sometimes I don’t remember the fantastic parts, and that’s what gets me down.

I’m beginning to notice that inside I’m my own worst critic, but generally positive to others – and using these thoughts from you will hopefully give me a better opinion and outlook on myself. I need these reminders often!

Thanks for writing. You’ve got a great blog over here. Just found you, and will be adding you to be RSS feed. You should expect to hear from me often!

      Hi Christian,

Thanks for the feedback – It’s pretty clear that we all need these reminders often, probably all the time! There’s such an ingrained habit of putting yourself down that it can be tough to overcome. It’s worth it though – even if you spend a few weeks every now and then before you realise it is happening. Best to know about it at all, than to live life that way for ever!

  2. Inspiring post Dan,
I know I sometimes get too busy to really think to myself and just feel fantastic on how far I’ve come. Sometimes we just get into the mindset of doing work and tasks and don’t get the chance to stop and think of what opportunities we created for ourselves and just be thankful for that.

Hi Vitaly, I think we’re all like this! It’s great to remind yourself frequently of your strengths and the things you do and have done really well! Otherwise, it’s all about the negatives – something we could ironically call a strength!

I really have been starting to believe in the power of affirmations. There’s so much going on in the subconscious mind, and telling it positive things definitely seems to have an impact. That book sounds pretty cool. I’ll have to check it out. Negative self-talk is no good for anyone.

We are all phenomenally one of a kind special souls of creation Dan each carrying a huge spark of individual brilliance….but only when we cease comparing ourselves to others. Nobody can do and be what and who we are. We are unique, just like everyone else!

  5. Thanks for the reminder Dan. I’ve been too focused on my goals lately that I’ve forgotten that you should look back once in a while and take a look at how far you’ve come. And I’ve realized that I’ve come a looooong way. I should acknowledge this and tell myself just how fantastic I’m doing at getting closer and closer to my goal! Sometimes, the journey matters much more than the end goal.

Thanks Catherine – it’s wonderful to meet other people who love this book!
